I Got This

So I'm going to attempt to get my feet wet. Again. When I tried this blogging thing, what was that, like five years ago? I had no idea I would get so sucked in. That's a bad way of looking at it. It's not like it's a drug and you want more. It doesn't happen overnight. Little by little I found myself writing more, getting people to read my writing and then before I knew it, I was posting more than once a day. I was dreaming about my next pst, writing snippets on pieces of paper. Voice recording blog posts on my phone. Then, my life with children demanded my time. I quit working full time...

Blogging was hard. Where was the time? You think that being home you'll have ALL this time to write. Sure, the ideas were there, but where was the damn time.? It was non existent. I couldn't stand sitting in front of my laptop writing a post and telling my kids to hold on, mommy was busy. 

I'm going to slip back into my comfort zone and do one of the things I enjoy. One thing that lets me decompress. One place I can let the words spill out and if you judge me, oh well. If you like what I have to say, awesome! One thing for sure, it won't involve me having to discipline you, tell you to stop doing that or require me to feed you some meal or a snack. 

I'm going to start writing about my newest little man. The little pumpkin that changed my world. Fill in the blanks along the way. It's not a fresh start, just going to try and pick up the pieces where I left them. I'm not even sure where that was. I guess I might even have to go back and look. I forgot too. 

But one thing is for sure, I got this!  Like it says..

PYHO: Facebook Fan Page

Holy Batman! I am so over whelmed right now, my head is swimming and I'm not sure if I did everything right. It's 11:30pm and after a mad dash at 9:30pm to get into the chat room for Content Brew I tried my best to keep up. The page was lagging quite a bit and like a four year old high on smarties candies subject hopping gal like I am, I ran down another rabbit trail checking into creating a Facebook fan page.

Apparently some time ago I created one and never maintained it. Unfortunately the damn thing has to be linked to your personal FB page even if you try not to. I created a new account with my blog email address and the stupid thing somehow figured out that I was the other email address and linked the two together. I even logged out of my regular page. VERY annoying to say the least.

I had already deactivated the first page I created. Which takes 14 days, mind you. Stupid if you ask me. But who's asking me? I guess there's a delay, just in case you made a mistake. I'm not backing out. The page has 6 likes. Just 6! That is my fault. Really. But it's still sad. Very, very sad.

So I created a new one. Had a lot of difficulty with the photo for the page. I guess when my blog revamp happened over a year ago I was using a different computer. The image files are somewhere else now so I had to click and save from my blog to have a profile pic.  What a hassle that was! The files wanted to save as png's and basic Facebook doesn't accept those files, then I had to change the saving files. This is all more than I can handle on a six hour nights sleep. Especially after working an eight and half hour shift today. With both kids with me.

Torture? Close to it. If you ask me, I wouldn't mind joining Little E with some sobbing and crying that he blessed me with this afternoon and through the evening. Bedtime couldn't have come fast enough for him. But here I sit, sharing my frustrations with you on my blog Facebook Fan page.
 
So tomorrow I get more torture the pleasure of figuring out how to upload my RSS feed to my Facebook fan page. I know there are blogs out there that do make overs on your page. Are there blogs out there that create your FB page, get all the bugs worked out. Link everything the way it needs to be and set up the links on your blog? Because seriously, I'm not sure if I can handle the pressure. I really don't want to start all over again if I do it wrong.

Content Brew-Coffee is Brewing

Day One of Content Brew was a success for me. Our first assignment was to work on our spreadsheets, virtual of course, tentatively where we want our blog posts to be. Being able to visually see where certain topics are each day; even every week, it makes it easy to see where you might want to adjust patterns of subjects you write about. With the awesome spreadsheet that Melissa designed it was almost a breeze to copy, click and paste each color coordinated tab into place.

The spreadsheet is set up for the entire year, but for now I've filled mine up for just a month. Melissa set us up with a suggested minimum amount of topic colors to use but I added a few more for myself without going overboard. It was suggested that less is more and if you have more than one blog that you're writing content for, it might be easier to use two sheets.

I'm using my spreadsheet in Google Docs after reading that my sheet can be accessed anywhere, from any computer, since it's online. So there is no reason for me to forget what posts should be written and posted. I'm loving this! Having lists online, instead of in my head or on a random post it note lost in the shuffle placed safely on my desk is a dream for me. It's a dream come true!

I'm waiting impatiently  with anticipation to get home this evening to start on Day Two! Today we're working on generating content for our Topics. We're even having another Twitter class to discuss what has been covered these first two days.  If you haven't looked into getting a spot in the class, I suggest you head over to momcomm to see if you can get a seat.

Content Brew

Schedules couldn't have worked out more perfectly for me this week. A few weeks ago when Melissa from momcomm announced that the was going to be leading a content planning course for bloggers I was dreaming like a little child who wants to see Mickey Mouse. I signed up for her newsletter and waited patiently like a four year old for information to hit her blog. Of course like any great blogger would do, Melissa promoted it through Twitter and had a party. I attended with many other great ladies and as my luck would have it, I won a spot on the class for March. I couldn't believe that I, little ol me, won a spot.

So after waiting, chewing at the bit the time has come and the class starts this week. My luck couldn;t have been much better either. Little E and Miss K are on Spring Break this week also. Which is a good thing because that means there are no dance classes either! So no late nights this week for this family. Even with my trips planned for the kids I should still have plenty of time in the morning or evening to sit down and do my class work.

If you're looking for a great way to plan out content for your blog. I suggest you look into momcomm's Content Brew course. I know that for myself who is like a butterfly, a happy puppy in the pet store window,  busy mom who works part time outside the house who wears many hats, it makes sense to organize and pre plan my blogging content. Not that I still won't be spontaneous some days. 

Sign Language and the Early Learner

After giving birth to your child do you ever think about what the next years will hold? You pretty much are concentrating on feedings, diaper changes and sleep schedules. Once you get the first few months under your belt you tackle rolling over, crawling and solid foods. Not far away your little one will be pulling up on the furniture, walking and babbling. Communication with your little bundle of joy is limited until they can actually speak words.
Most moms begin talking to their unborn babies while in the womb and your child recognizes your voice the moment they are born. But they cannot verbally communicate to you. Did the thought ever cross your mind about signing to them? Even children that do not have hearing impairments can quickly communicate with their parents in the form of "sign".

I was contacted by Emily Patterson about her recent article on Sign Language and Early Childhood Education and the importance of it. I found the article quite interesting and wish that I had known this when I gave birth to my first child seven years ago. I used to think parents who "signed" with their children instead of just trying to teach them to talk were silly. After visiting with my brother and his son this Christmas I changed my mind. My nephew who is 18 months old uses several "signs" that he has been doing since he was 9 months old and has quite a vocabulary and is putting 2-3 word sentences together. It is amazing! I hope you find her article as interesting as I did and consider the positives of early learning.


Sign Language and Early Childhood Education

The ability to communicate articulately in a variety of ways with the widest possible audience, is a skill that can take you far in our society today. Whether you learn a second language for job opportunity or just to become more diverse, it is a great unique ability.

This includes bilingual ability as well as the ability to communicate in non-verbal ways for the benefit of the disabled – primarily the deaf.

Signing Before They Can Speak

Research has shown that the early years of ages 2 to 5 is the best time to educate children in different modes of communication and language. This goes beyond the spoken word (though it is an optimal time for children to learn a second language); many young children have an aptitude for signing as well. This can be taught at home or some child care programs incorporate it into their curriculum.

While teaching a 2 year old a second language may seem a tad early or odd, it's actually been shown that sign language is innate. Many indigenous peoples around the world, including American Indian nations, have used sign language for centuries to facilitate communication with other tribes with whom they do not share a language. Some paleontologists and anthropologists theorize that Neanderthals – who apparently lacked the vocal mechanism to produce many spoken words – depended a great deal upon hand gestures to communicate.

Boulder Daily Camera published an article in 2003 presenting strong evidence that babies as young as six months old communicate with their hands:

"...by 6 to 7 months, babies can remember a sign. At eight months, children
can begin to imitate gestures and sign single words. By 24 months, children
can sign compound words and full sentences. They say sign language reduces
frustration in young children by giving them a means to express themselves
before they know how to talk." (Glarion, 2003)


The Best Time To Start

The sooner the better for children to start. From the ages 2 to 5, the child's brain is most flexible, making it easier for them to learn not only one language, but two or three even. They are able to mimic the signs when learning sign language, and in most cases even create their own in the beginning (which is ok!)

Not only does early childhood education in signing give pre-verbal youngsters a way to communicate, it can also strengthen the parent child-bond. Signing minimizes frustration levels and helps parents to communicate with their children before they can even walk!

It Can Last A Lifetime

The benefits are endless. Incorporating sign language into a child's early education not only optimizes learning potential for children but it helps them in the future as well.

Studies show that young children who are taught sign language at an early age actually develop better verbal skills as they get older. They have higher levels of skill in vocabulary, spelling and music as well.

Meeting a Blogger in Real Life

Do you ever look forward to meeting some one for the first time and then after wards you feel like, "why didn't I say this or that?!" I am not really a shy person but for some reason I turned speech less.
This weekend I got the opportunity to take my family to Tampa, FL for a photo shoot with Jennifer McKinney aka McKMama. I was excited to be able to line up a shoot because I found out she was coming to Florida the previous Sunday.
We arrived in Tampa, Ybor City and hour and 45 minutes early on Saturday and I checked Twitter to see if she had changed locations. She was on a lunch break after taking a full morning of shoots. I texted Jennifer to tell her I was there and it was as if we were real friends. We had some silly banter about where she was sitting and locating what vehicle I was driving. I really felt at ease about meeting one of my favorite bloggers and having her take photos of my children.

But after we met and she introduced herself to the kids I really didn't want to get in her way. For me, our time was on a professional level and she was working. We chatted a few times, once about my booking being lucky right before she came to Florida and about how my hubby didn't want photos taken of him. ( We got him to do a few.) But I really wish I hadn't been so tongue tied.
I think I was like in a dream. I know it's corny, but when you actually get to meet a blog writer that you have been reading for quite some time it's surreal. It's like, "wow they actually exist and they are a real person." It's funny how you read about some one's life and you feel as if you know them on a personal level. I really wanted to give Jennifer a hug at the end of my shoot, but I wasn't sure how she would take that. I'm such a worrier.

I was so excited to see her little baby Lachlan and meet her sister, Hillary at the end of our shoot. Her children are so adorable and seeing her newest addition in person gave me that "awwww" moment. I wish the little guy hadn't been so fussy, but he was hungry for his mama. I would have loved to give him a snuggle.

After leaving Tampa and getting back on the interstate to drive the two hour trip home, I had those "why didn't I do this, or say that" moments. I hate that. I wish I hadn't been so speech less.

Favorite Lady

since it's going to be a three day work week!

Writer's Workshop:Rinse and Repeat

This week I am linking up with Mama Kat and doing some Writer's Workshop. I love this meme. When my creative juices are not flowing I love picking one of her prompts and going with it. This week #4 caught my eye.

I found this amazing recipe with chicken, mushrooms, wine and a few other various ingredients that I wanted to try to make. My husband loves mushrooms and I showed him the delicious idea I was thinking and he was salivating at the thought of a yummy mushroom meal. Unfortunately I tried waiting until mushrooms were on sale before attempting this recipe. When I finally bought the earth grown, dirty little fungus' I had planned out a perfect weekly menu. But a perfectly set up menu doesn't mean a load of crap when your week gets all jacked up. Several crazy evenings of grabbing dinner on the go and making quick dinners of mac and cheese my mushrooms sat and waited.
I finally decided a week later that I was going to make this special dish for my husband. I pulled out my dirty little white, eerrr gray colored earth fungus and set them out. Like I always do with my vegetables and fruits I was going to wash the dirt or pesticides from them. They appeared to be border line on going bad but I figured a good bath would fix that. I took out my colander and dumped both containers in. I turned on the water and washed them vigorously to remove a few traces of slimyness. I let them soak in the water for a few moments and started browning my chicken.
When it came time to drop in the mushrooms for cooking they just didn't seem quite right. I browned them as I normally would adding my garlic then the white wine and the recipe required cooking them until all the liquid was gone. Well I was cooking and cooking and cooking. This went on for quite some time. What was wrong with my mushrooms? I turned up the heat and thought maybe higher heat would do the trick. Not the case. I gave up and removed my skillet from the stove top.
I turned on my computer and googled mushrooms. I searched prep and care of mushrooms. It says that you should quickly rinse, pat dry and use immediately. Oh great! I ruined them with the water bath!! So needless to say my recipe was a bust. Those mushrooms had taken on so much water like sponges that they pretty much cooked to mush.
I cannot remember what my back up meal plan was but I'm sure it involved a delivery driver and some garlic bread. Those little fungus'!!

Friday Fragments:FF

Little E bit a hole on either side of his tongue while throwing a tantrum about his dinner on Wednesday evening. Jumping up and down on his step stool at the kitchen counter it flipped and his chin smacked the counter and his teeth chomped his tongue. I wasn't sure what was hurt but there was lots of tears and plenty of blood. After calming him down I looked in his mouth and found two holes on both sides of his tongue where his teeth pierced through. Hopefully next time he disagrees with my choice in his dinner he won't pitch a fit!

I finally have figured out the perfect time to get to the school and get in line at Parent Pick Up. It's crazy but I have to arrive at the school by 1:40pm even though the school bell rings at 2:05pm to release the kids. I hope that after a few weeks it will calm down and I can not stress out about it.

I miss summer vacation so much! This first week back has been a major adjustment for me. I am so tired and adjusting to this busy schedule is wearing me out! I was so tired today that when I went to clean the windows on my van I thought I grabbed the aerosol window spray. I sprayed the windshield and couldn't understand why it was so greasy and I kept rubbing and rubbing the paper towel. I looked at the can and noticed I grabbed the tire foam! ACK! I am so tired I can't even grab the right can!

I thought that my little boy was so sweet and tender. But the main word in that is BOY. He is ALL boy. Rough and tumble, dirt and mud, and crazy and loud! Yikes! He has hit his head more in one week of having a bunk bed than he has in his three years of his life!

The other mom's at my daughter's dance class can be so catty. I am trying not to stick my nose into their business and get involved with any of them. They are so rude and don't even realize or maybe care that I am sitting in a chair trying to watch my kid dance too! I guess next week I may have to get out the BIG guns and drag my chair up to the window and block them. Maybe I should let Little E bring his drum set and bang on it. It might drive them out the door.

I love watching Teen Mom on MTV. I am guilty of enjoying watching those young moms try to make it with or without a man to help them. This week's episode definitely confirmed their maturity for me. I think the only one I have a heart for is Maci. She seems to have her head on straight and has really grown up in the year after giving birth to her son Bentley.

Read an article on FB today from Seventh Generation company about BPA in receipts. Can you believe that BPA is in the paper and ink that is used? It's crazy! I have tried to be more health conscious but where do you draw the line?

I can't wait until it cools off some around here. I need to have a yard sale but it's so hot I couldn't face sitting in the heat to sell my stuff for small cash. My husband has suggested renting a storage unit until we can find the time to organize the yard sale. I am not looking forward to it.

Miss K seems to not be enjoying going back to school. I told her tomorrow was the last day and she thought that I meant the last day for the year. I explained to her that it was the last day for the week. Did she really think it was one week of school and then one off? I think she is jealous that Little E stays home with me.

I hate summer colds. This is my first one in years and it's knocking me down. It makes it worse that I'm already exhausted from getting up by 6:00am every day. I am looking forward to sleeping in on Saturday.

I still need to send out thank you's for Little E's birthday party that I had July 19th and now Miss K's from the 8th. I am so bad. I need to enlist the kids in getting this done with me. It might actually motivate me to finish it.

Looking forward to Sunday! We're taking the kids to Blue Springs to cool off in the 72 degree water for the afternoon.

Loved your vlog!

1. Is there something you've always wanted to try but just can't muster up the courage to actually do yet?
I want to tandem skydive. I bought my husband a jump for his 30th birthday and he enjoyed the heck out of it. I want to do it one day but just haven't convinced myself that it's safe enough.

2. If you had $100 handed to you in cash without your significant other knowing about it, what would you spend it on?
Some shoes or a new purse. Possibly even get that pedicure I'm needing.

3. What was your favorite piece of playground equipment as a child?
I loved the see saw, but it wasn't much fun unless you had a partner.

4. Do you prefer a sweet or hearty breakfast?
I like a combination of both. I like to eat a bagel with honey nut cream cheese, my coffee and a yogurt during the week. My weekend breakfasts are more hearty with toast, eggs and bacon.

5. Are you a Neat Freak or a Messy Bessy?
Total neat freak!!! I am OCD about my cleaning and tidying up. But I can honestly say that after 2 kids I have gotten more relaxed about the dusting and mopping. I still keep the house very tidy with all toys and mess picked up daily.

Global Explosion

I fell in love with this candle holder when I attended my first Party Lite party. The consultant proudly displayed this "bad boy" in the center of her display table allowing us ladies to admire it's beauty. She went to explain that if we booked a party and we sold enough candles that we too could earn enough cash to buy one of own. I couldn't sign up fast enough. Four weeks later I was throwing my own party and pushing sales to get enough to buy one. Three days after my party was over my consultant gave me the good news, I had enough to buy the Global Fusion!
When it arrived in the mail a few weeks later I couldn't wait to find it a place to sit. Standing at 12 inches high it doesn't fit too well on small shelves and I didn't want it too high because it is a candle holder. For a year it sat on top of my 3 shelf bookcase in the dining room. This year after a second candle party I bought the Trio Votive Holder set. I moved the GF to another shorter bookcase in he dining room and displayed the trio in it's original place. I guess this wasn't a very wise idea.This is what happens when you combine a 2 1/2 year old with a hula hoop in the house. I didn't cry and I didn't yell. I just got the broom and dustpan and started cleaning up. Little E told me that he was sad. I felt bad that he was sad about it, but I was sad about it too. What was done was done. That hula hoop was sent to the room. I am not done with that toy. Anyone want a light up hula hoop? FREE to good home.
