I'm bacccck!!!

Whew! I feel like such a slacker. I have been away from my blog for a few weeks, I know. I went away on my family vacation to Colorado and since I have been back it's been a busy, busy life. I had the most amazing time in Colorado visiting extended family, exploring the sites, experiencing Colorado's nature and snow and watching my kids have the best time.
Now that I think about it I have been way from my blog for almost a month! That's awful! I left for Colorado on December 4th and returned on December 12th. As many people say, you need a vacation from the vacation. So the week following our vacation I was busy doing laundry, cleaning the mess of a house that my pet sitter left me and doing the regular routine of taking Miss K to school and going to work. It was a very exhausting week cut short when the school week was only four days. Winter Break started December 18th which meant mommy was going to have two kiddos in the house while trying to decorate for Christmas. Since we left right at the beginning of December and spent the week before preparing and packing for our trip, we neglected to set up our tree.
I love to decorate for the holidays but I wasn't "feeling it" this year since we were closing in on Christmas Eve. By Sunday the 20th we finally set up the tree and got the house looking like it was Christmas ready. That same weekend I finished my shopping, something I haven't done in years! I have always been an early shopper and finding myself wandering the mall and local department stores to find last minute gifts was not my idea of fun. Especially since my hubby watched the kids for me so I could have a kid free day. I can say it was a relief to not have them with me when I witnessed many crying children in strollers and parents with sour faces. I relished in the quiet an not having to hear "mommy can I get something", "mommy I'm hungry".
Before I knew it Christmas Eve was here and I was pretty exhausted from late gift wrapping nights. Finding time during the day with both kids to wrap gifts is nearly impossible.
Again I was forced to head into the crowds to shop for snack foods for the Christmas Eve buffet we were going to at my brother in laws house. I thought I would hit Sam's Wholesale and get all the items on my list. I'm not sure what I was thinking about buying for eight people in a bulk food store.

Who needs five boxes of crackers for 8 people? I only needed a tsp of Cayenne Pepper for my crab dip recipe and they sell a 64oz container of Cayenne. So after grabbing a few items at Sams I had to stop at Walmart to get the rest of my list. Unless you were one the those last minute evening shoppers like myself on the eve of Christmas Eve you have no idea. It is nuts! The traffic alone makes you crazy, it's like they all come out and then the people in the stores have lost all of their manners, as if they had any to begin with.
So I survived the week before Christmas and made it to Christmas Eve. It was a low key Friday for us with the hubby working half day. Except for the fact that my dogs escaped the backyard fence and I had to drive around in my pj's in my neighborhood looking for them.
We attended the Kid Interactive Christmas Eve service at our church before heading to my brother in laws. The service was amazing! When we entered the church each child was given a sealed box to open when that part of the service was announced. Each box contained items to be used during song and story so the children could participate. It was so cute to watch the kids ring their bells that was contained in their boxes and place nativity characters on the paper scene .

We left my brother in laws house later than I wanted to and got the kids to bed as soon as we got home. It took Miss K forever to fall asleep so Santa could come. We had the best time laughing at our dogs who found the carrots left out for the reindeer and ate them all. At least we didn't have to eat the raw carrots ourselves this year. Blech!
We were pretty tired by the time we got to bed around midnight and expected to get up around 6:30 am. Boy were we wrong! Our children decided that they would get up at 3:30am and bang on our door! After my hubby opened the door they yell " Santa was here!!!".
What?!! I couldn't believe they actually had the nerve to knock on my door at this hour like it was an emergency! I told them to march back to bed. That was mistake #2. ( Mistake #1 was allowing Santa to not wrap his gifts) Of course I should have walked them to bed because after I passe back out they came out the tree again. They hovered on the unwrapped gifts and Little E kept coming into to my room and asking me to open his airplanes. By 6:45am I gave up and told the hubby that we should just go out there and do Christmas morning.
It was as if a tornado came through! They had opened at least five wrapped gifts, a few were just half torn paper and the stockings were gone through. I couldn't believe it! Delirious I just laughed and laughed. What was I going to do? I got mad at first and they both started crying and I didn't want to ruin their Christmas morning.
As I think about it now, I didn't take one photo that morning. I'm not sure if I wanted to document that madness or I was just so tired from the kids not letting me sleep. But not one single morning photo. I was glad that we didn't have to be to my father in laws house until noon so I was able to take a nap before leaving the house. The rest of the day was like any other major holiday around here, spend a few hours at one house, load up drive around and go to the next house.
So here I am again, recovering from a long weekend of family, gifts, too much food and overload of laundry not washed. I spent the day today washing laundry and laying on my bed. It was pretty depressing. I am still getting through reorganizing the kids rooms and removing old clothes and old toys to make room for the new stuff. Next task, my computer room. It has become the almighty catch all room. I can't wait to remove my Christmas totes from it and get started on the blueprints on the new drop down bookcase to hold my Cricut and my sewing machine. I got a sewing machine from my mother in law for Christmas! I can't wait to get started!
So here's a little catching up for now. A few more new stories about our trip, the pet sitter and my recent sadness here on the homefront coming soon.......

Writer's Workshop-12/9

This week I am joining again with Mama Kat with her weekly blog carnival Writer's Workshop. This week seems pretty easy considering that the five prompts are one word. Easy? Maybe. The word that jumped out at me was bold. BOLD. Here goes nothing.
If only I could simply say what is on my mind without repercussion. I don't enjoy biting my tongue about things that should be said. Aren't we all friends here? If we are friends than you won't mind me telling you the truth about what I really think. I don't mind if you tell me what you think because it's your opinion and if I agree then fine. If I don't agree then maybe I can use some constructive criticism. It's healthy.
But I am not bold enough to really state the facts and my opinion is just not that, it's the truth. The truth hurts. So I can't go there and poison what I have. Although do I really have anything if I feel the way that I do? If something bothers me that much then I should go there. I should say something and let the chips fall where they will. It could end up like Humpty Dumpty and never get put back together again or maybe it would? Maybe the glue that sticks us together is strong enough for me to go there.
Honestly I may never know. I'm not ready to go there just yet. I like to just sit back and watch. Waiting like a crouching tiger for the right moment. And when that moment strikes, watch out! Because I will BOLDLY go where no one has gone before.

Somethings brewing

Oh how I LOVE the smell of fresh coffee beans.
It's like a small piece of heaven when you
walk into a Barnie's Coffee and smell the aroma
of the dark roasted, the peppermint, the kona and
breakfast blends arousing your senses.

source

I was not always a coffee drinker. I used to find the
black cup o joe revolting actually.
My morning drink of choice then was Mountain Dew.
Long gone are those days.
Now I look forward to turning on my
Keurig coffeemaker and making my single
cup of Black Magic or Kona coffee.
It sets the mood and tone for the day.
In the summer I will hit the local Dunkin Donuts
and buy an iced coffee light and sweet.
Spolied by my high end coffeemaker it's hard to enjoy a cup
from anywhere else unless there is a Starbuck's nearby.
Traveling out of town is pretty hard and I almost want to
pack my coffeepot to go with me.
Have you ever tried to Google local DD's or Starbuck's?
Recently I was needing a fix as I was heading down the interstate
and the GPS instructed me to get off the next exit and turn
around and go back 5 miles.
As depserate as I was I didn't follow the reroute and kept
on until I found an exit that blazened the red bullseye.
Target.
Ah how I LOVE that you have Starbuck's.
I'm not too picky but have you ever realized
that some cities don't have a Dunkin Donuts?
Pensacola doesn't.
When visiting my brother I forget and I've tried to
Google it and the nearest one it tells me is Miami!??
Odd, since I think driving home is a shorter distance
even if it is 7.5 hours.
What is your morning fix?
Your drink of choice?

OH NO YOU DIDN'T: Nov 23

Welcome to the “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!” TUESDAY Headquarters. I’m so excited that you’ve decided to play along!

Photobucket

So sorry that I'm slacking today
and did not get this up by midnight.
I went to a lot of trouble and drew an
illustration on paint to go along with this
and could not get it to be big enough to see what
I wrote.So here goes nothing.
Yesterday I decided to go to Dunkin Donuts
to pick up iced coffees for the hubs and I.
After waiting forever to make a left turn onto the
street that DD is on the corner of I slowly
pull up to the drive and as I'm starting to make a right turn
into the parking lot I notice a black Lincoln Navigator behind me.
She pulls in also and I continue to go right following
the parking lot around the building to properly around to the
drive through window. I follow around the building and I'm almost to
the intercom and I spot the Lincoln. She went through the parking
lot on the other side and was trying to get her SUV yanked
back around to cut me off. OH NO YOU DIDN'T!!!
I press the pedal just enough to cut her off and make my
order. The best part. The DD employee took
a little longer than normal to make my coffees!
Hahaha! Karma, it'll get them every time!

Colorado Trip Pre-Shopping

This is what I'm hoping to see lots of
when we get to Colorado in twelve days!
I can't believe that it's almost here and I can't stop thinking
about my trip that it's hard to focus on anything else.
I am trying to clear my mind and enjoy this week.
It is Thanksgiving week!

In preparation for our trip we went to
Burlington Coat Factory and bought some ski
jackets. I was going to borrow a jacket
from my cousin whom I am going to be visiting and
staying with, but I wanted to find something to wear.
I am so pleased that I found the perfect jacket. It's a 4 in 1 jacket system
with zip out removeable inner jacket. I love the colors, it's
pink, brown and white and looks so cute!
Of course the hubs was jealous and HAD to buy one too.

I was looking at the trendier jackets but
when the hubs spotted the more ski style jackets
that had hoods and were triple lined, it was well worth it!
The best part, the price!!
Each jacket cost $59.99 and if you check the prices
online the sell for $125.00-135.00 and
in stores they go for $175.00 to $190.00.
We scored big buying them at BCF.
I am so ready now. I can't wait to be in this colder
weather and see snow and actually play in it
with the kids.
Look out Colorado!

Friday Fragments #121

Mommy's Idea

It's so good to have something to write about
something to say. I have missed my time to sit
and blog and let it all go.

My husband must have gotten sick from our camping trip because he has been ill since Monday and it seems flu like. I'm not a fan of him getting sick because men are downright big babies when they get sick. BUT I have actually been very gracious and tending to his needs in hopes that he'll feel better for the weekend.

Tonight my little guy was asking about daddy being sick and why was he sick. I tried to explain that daddy had a germ inside of him that was making him feel bad. Little E says " is it in his mouth mommy? You know mommy, daddy's cold is dangerous." Dangerous? That was just too funny!

I let the kids stay up a half hour longer tonight to watch the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Special and I said to Miss K, "oh yeah, you're watching Peanuts." She looks at me and says "no, it's not". My bad! I know them as the Peanuts gang! Kids these days.

I am so proud of our new puppy. It took me one day to teach her to sit, one day to teach her to lay down and she has learned her name in three days. So far so good. We have had about four potty accidents and I forgot how much poop a big dogs does. It's been awhile since I've had a large breed dog.

I've been so busy with the camping trip and our upcoming trip to Colorado in 16 days that I haven't been thinking much about Christmas itself. I have so many things to plan out. Christmas cards? Christmas photos, which I will need before the cards. Shopping.....putting up the tree. I am not looking forward to the tree,a new cat and a puppy should put a few more gray hairs on my head.

I was sad to discover that my local Polish delicatessen closed it's doors due to the downturn in the economy. And the local Hallmark card and gift store is closing two days after Thanksgiving. The small businesses are having a hard time hanging on, when will this end?

Hope y'all have a great Friday!!
Great weekend!

Camping Trip November 2010

I have finally found a moment to sit down and
blog about our four day camping trip on Veteran's Memorial Weekend.
I never realized how exhausting camping can be.
The actual sleeping in a tent on an air mattress
wasn't too bad, but I think my back and neck
might disagree. The worst part of camping is
the mountain of laundry that multiplies when you get back.
I washed laundry from Monday to Thursday.
How is that possible?
I can't believe that on day 2 of camping I said
"I could do this ALL the time. I love the simple life.
I think I could live in the woods forever."
Yeah, really.

The sign to our camp site

Our home away from home

Little E and our friend N watching the hubs make a fire

Miss K and our friend Miss N sitting by the fire
in the dark with their shades on.
They were too cool for this.
Mr Cool

The hubs popping Jiffy Pop popcorn

This was how we heated water for our outdoor shower

It was chilly so to prevent any one getting sick we bundled

Little E was having a moment
and wasn't much for posing

My friend Erin and I discovered bear scat
when we walked to the bathroom
so we took the kids on a nature walk to show them

Th girls were more interested than the boys

My pretty girl even in the dirt, woods and poo

Baby A and her daddy, she had the best seat this weekend

Even behind the dirt she has a pretty face

Chilling out a camp after the days hunt
unfortunately the guys got nada
The kids enjpoying roasted marshmallows
I treated Miss K to ice cream
and told her she needed to eat it then since
I couldn't keep it frozen

The last night at camp
The last morning at camp and
Miss K wasn't ready to go just yet....

Even though it was exhausting to come home
and try to clean house, wash 12 loads of laundry, potty train
our new puppy and get back in the groove of the weekly routine
it was ALL WORTH IT
The kids had a blast and I hope they don't forget it.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T:Nov 16

Welcome to the “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!” TUESDAY Headquarters. I’m so excited that you’ve decided to play along!

Last week I complained about my mother in law and boy she is on the top of my charts yet again. This weekend my husband and I took the kids camping with his mother, his step dad, some other family members and my friend Erin and her family. We hadn't been at the campground more than ten or fifteen minutes after introducing my friend Erin's four kids. I don't remember exactly what was said first but my mother in law says, "oh two kids is enough. YOU don't need anymore". OH NO YOU DIDN'T! Who in the hell does she think she is???!!! I wasn't even in the conversation and she is gonna stand there and tell ME that I don't need anymore kids. When did she ever think that she had a say in how many kids I need or want? Needless to say I blew her off and didn't let on that I was fuming.
The crap that she says or does is just one of the reasons I don't enjoy hanging around my husband's family.

This weekend we planned on going to the corn maze on Saturday with the kids. The trip was planned for five weeks in advance once the area events had put out their calendars for fall events. Our camping trip was planned a few months ago for the same weekend that my husband's mother and stepfather go. It was decided after some urging from my mil that the hubs go hunting too, during the camping trip. Fine. But of course the hunting trip doesn't come without strings. Two weekends ago it was expected that the hubs goes to the gun range and sight in his rifle. Somewhere between that weekend and last weekend his mother calls him to see if he was going to go "scout" his spot to set up his tree stand on Saturday, the same day of the corn maze trip. Of course as always, the hubs tries to make everyone happy and doesn't tell her no. He probes me to see what time we're going. I told him we are leaving the house at 10am.
So his mom calls him at work on Thursday. He avoided the call at first and then called her back. She wanted to make sure he was going with them and they would pick him up at 8:30am. He told her he wasn't going with them. She says to him "can't you just get out of it?" OH NO YOU DIDN'T! She did not just tell him that he should go scouting with her instead of spending a weekend with his family. He told her "no. I don't want to get out of it. I'm going to the corn maze with the kids." She didn't like it.
I can't believe that she said that! Ever since I married him she has been a thorn in my side when it comes to him choosing her over his family. Before we were married she could call him and get him to be at her beck and call, but things have changed. His priorities have changed, his mother is not #1 anymore. She needs to realize that his family is #1 now.

5QF: November

Wow! I'm on a roll, two blog hops in one day! I love it when I remember to look at the 5QF questions on Thursday night because I always forget by Friday morning and I'm so busy on Fridays. Tomorrow will be no exception. I hope I haven't over scheduled myself.

Wow. I am not tired tonight. I am guessing it's the coffee. I had half a cup of Kona coffee from my Keurig machine. Bad idea. It's very strong coffee and now I'm not tired. Got up late this morning but was lucky enough to still get Miss K to school on time. I might not get as lucky tomorrow. Wish me luck!

1. If you could have any talent and turn it into an occupation, what would it be? To be able to read minds like that guy on the show Heroes. It would be very practical in the investigative field that I really wanted to pursue before children. I love to figure things out. I never take anything for face value and always analyze what is said to me. I do over analyze and it gets me in trouble sometimes.

2. Would you rather have a house at the beach or a cabin in the woods? Cabin in the woods! I love the mountains so this cabin would be in the woods on a mountain. I would have a hammock on a surrounding porch with lots of room to roam in the nature. I would have plenty of space to have all my dogs and horses. What a dream!

3. Is there any meaning or reasoning for the names you chose for your child/children? yes. I wanted an Irish name for my first born even though we had no idea what the gender was. And we paired the names we picked with middle names from our families. I picked my son's name the same way but we knew what he was. If I have another, it will have a name from Irish descent as well. I'm part Irish and proud of it.

4. What is your guilty pleasure? (I know we've done this one before, but I'm guessing people's "guilty pleasures" change frequently. At least, mine do!) brownies! Lately I have been craving chocolate, gooey brownies! the gooey the better!

5. Do you live in a house that is deep cleaned or straightened? uhhh, both. Actually I have been really bad about my deep cleaning but anyone else would never notice because all my friends say my house is SO clean. I know where the dust bunnies are though. I just haven't had the time to vacuum them up. But overall the house is pretty spotless and always, always straightened.

Friday Fragments #119

I really like Friday Fragments
they remind of how my mind is always thinking.
I might start on one thought which leads to another
then another and another and before I know it
I forgot what thought I started with.

Mommy's Idea

* This week has flown by already and tomorrow is my baby brother's birthday. I was going to buy him a card and a gift card and mail it. He always gets me a gift card. But since Wal mart didn't have a great selection of Brother cards I went to Target. Browsing the isles I found the perfect gift, a set of four Simpson's drinking glasses. He LOVES the Simpson's and I couldn't resist. Now I have to carefully wrap each glass in paper and pack them in a box with shipping popcorn to ship to Pensacola. I wonder how much the shipping will cost me. I should have stuck to the gift card, but I like more personal gifts. They get remembered.

* I got the call yesterday that the puppy we had a 2nd hold on at the Humane Society went home with the family who had a 1st hold. I got the butterflies in my stomach when I saw who was calling, hoping that they were saying we could come get her. Sadness hit me instead.

* I wasn't going to go look at any more dogs at the shelter. Who was I fooling? I drove there again this afternoon with the kids. They had a few puppies and we took out a female Catahoula Leopard Hound Mix puppy to play with. I guess the first puppy was not meant to be because this dog is far better! We are 1st hold and we are taking Bella and Ryelee ( my other dogs) to be introduced to her tomorrow. I took a few pictures of her on my cell phone but I'm having problems getting the phone to email them to the computer.

* I can't believe how cold the weather is already getting. A cold front is moving through and has been all day with rain and wind most of the afternoon. I stepped outside a few minutes ago and the temperature has dropped several degrees. I have been waiting for cold weather since it turned October and it never happened. Time to pullout the sweatshirts!

* Shoe shopping is no fun! I used to like to shop for shoes but I have to take a 3yr old and find him more shoes. Little E has wide feet and I've been lucky to find Skecher's skateboard style shoes that fit. But he has outgrown them and now we're down to 2 shoes besides flip flops that he can wear.

*I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for a regular checkup on how I'm doing on my medication. I have to tell the doctor that we need to change one of my prescriptions. One of the side effects is excessive sweating and I've got it. I take this pill in the am and within an hour of taking it I am sweating like a pig. It's horrible. Hopefully he can recommend another pill and it works just as well.

*I'm on the lookout for a sewing machine. I borrowed a Sewing Genie from my mother in law and what a joke that was! I tried to replace the bottom bobbin and trying to do that create havoc. The machine would not sew. I tried multiple times, my husband tried multiple times and then he broke the needle and then it jammed. And the directions were very vague. No help from google either.

* 30 days until we leave for Colorado!! The count down begins.

* I'm meeting with a pet sitter tomorrow to take care of the animals while we go camping. This will be the first time I have left the dogs at home while I go away. I usually kennel them but with the cats, the bird and the fish this is the best route. She charges per trip, not per pets so it's very reasonable.

November

This is going to be one busy month for us. Busy weekends make the year go by fast, I'm not sure if anyone else feels that way. After breathing a sigh of relief that we survived Halloween and all the festivities that it holds, we're off and running again.

This weekend we are taking the kids to a corn maze with our friends, something I've been looking forward to for five weeks now. Our county fair starts this Thursday Nov 4th and goes through to Sunday Nov 14th. We were planning on going the first night because it's free admission but I'm not sure now. They changed the calendar and the cheapest night to ride the rides is next Monday. So we'll see. We missed the fair last year and I am looking forward to some greasy corn dogs, powdered elephant ears and sweet homemade kettle corn.

Of course I'm looking forward to riding the rides, playing the games, checking out the crafts and art work displays and petting the farm animals. The kids love walking through the poultry holding area and looking at all the ducks, chickens, guinea hens and peacocks. I wish that the school Miss K attended had a 4H club. She would really enjoy raising a chicken for show.

Nov 11th-14th we're going on a camping trip into Ocala. I'm excited and nervous about camping with the kids, since this will be the first time and it's primitive camping. The only luxury we have is bathrooms. We invited my friend Erin and her family to go and they'll be joining us on Thursday and Friday. Hubby's stepsister and her family and his mother and her husband are going. It's also the first weekend of general gun season for hunting.

I'll be packing lots of games, outdoor activities and books to keep everyone occupied during hunting time. At least it doesn't start until Saturday morning. I'm hoping to walk around the camp and check out the nature, maybe see some animals.

Before you know it Thanksgiving will be here on the 25th. I haven't even begun to think about my shopping list for Black Friday. I'm hoping to tag along with Erin and her sister Sarah so I don't have to go alone. Hubby will be staying home with the kids so I won't have my sidekick with me.

Going into December we're leaving to go to Colorado. So I have to start thinking about what I'm going to be packing and make sure I'm not missing anything. This will be our first family vacation since before I had Little E. My husband will get to see snow for the first time and get to play in it! So somewhere in this month I hope I find the time for me.

What are your plans for this month? Anything exciting?

OH NO YOU DIDN'T:Nov 2

Welcome to the “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!” TUESDAY Headquarters. I’m so excited that you’ve decided to play along!

Photobucket

Miss K's art teacher at her school is a girl I went to high school with. We really weren't friends, more like acquaintances who tolerated each other while we were in the swim team. She and I also had a mutual friend that I was very close to, so again we were expected to tolerate each other. So you'd think after 16 years after graduating that people would grow up. some people don't.

This girl is also part of the administration at the school, equipped with her own walkie-talkie and the power to discipline those around her. She has given Miss K a hard time since Kindergarten but she has finally decided she wants to show her power off to me.

To ensure that Miss K makes it to class on time, I've started walking her to her classroom which is on the other side of the campus from parent parking. I usually get her there in between the first and second bells. Once the second bell rings they make an announcement that all parents need to exit the campus or go to the office and get a visitors pass. I'm usually walking to the van when the second bell rings. Never before have I been approached about leaving the campus.

But Ms. Art teacher comes up to me and says to me and my friend Erin, " I can't keep you guys out of trouble. But you guys are leaving later and later everyday and you need to be off campus".
What?! Are you serious!? "Oh No You Didn't"!!!

She actually found her moment to get at me, or so she thought. I looked at her like she was naked. That shocked, WTF moment. I wonder how many other parents she scolds as they are leaving the school. My guess is none. But she couldn't resist giving me crap or Erin for that matter.

Do you have an ONYD moment? Link up!!!

Monday Minute:Halloween

Happy Halloween!
It's all over. The kids hit the jackpot this year
and got the most candy we've ever gotten before.
We found a gold mine when we discovered a new
subdivision to go to since we don't trick or treat near home.
You just don't go door to door in the woods, if ya know what I mean.
It was nice, not crowds of kids, decent candy and
no cars driving around.

Halloween Icon Pictures, Images and Photos

So let's go to it. This week's post for the
Monday Minute.

1. What did you dress up as your first Halloween?
I have no clue. The first Halloween that I can remember I was Casper
the Friendly Ghost. I think I was 3 or 4 years old.
2. What was your favorite Halloween costume of all time?
My favorite costume was when I dressed as a witch and I
had my black cat Patches with me.
3. Do you believe in ghosts?
Yes I do. It creeps my husband out. I was born
on Friday the 13th and I have this fascination with
spirits and ghosts. I think it was my 20th birthday and it fell on a Friday so
my mother bought me a Ouija board and I used
it that night. My husband( who was my bf then) would not touch it and I
used it once at his rental house ( which was built in the 50's)
and it got a little creepy. ( I was using it alone) and I've never used
it again. Honestly you have to be careful with witchcraft.
4. What's your favorite holiday of the year?
Halloween
5. What's your favorite fall dessert?
Do I have to choose one? I love pumpkin muffins,
pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, and cranberry bran muffins.
mmm. this is making me hungry!

Happy Halloween

We dressed the kids in their Halloween costumes last night
to take them to a Trunk n Treat and to a Halloween celebration
in the town I grew up in.
My little Pirate

Isn't he a cute pirate?

And my fairy Princess who looked
so beautiful in her tutu and pretty wings.

I made the tutu. I got so many compliments
on both of the kids costumes.
I am proud of myself because I pulled it off
and made both of their costumes again.
Tonight after an early dinner we're going to another
Trunk n Treat and then hitting some local neighborhoods for
some trick or treating.
What have you got planned?
Be safe and watch our for the children as
you take your children out.
And as always- check your candy!

Wacky Wednesday

I was half looking forward to today. Wednesday is my day off and I usually get a chance to relax since it's the one day that nothing else is going on. No work, no trips to the dance studio for Miss K, no driving to the gym and no volunteering at school. You get the drift. I have been anticipating this day for a week at least. I had it scheduled today and prepaid for the surgery for my dog and my cat to be spayed and neutered.
My dog Bella is almost a year old and since we do not want her to have puppies she needed to be spayed. The cat Oscar is about six months old and he is coming into his "manhood". I guess you could call it that and since he's an indoor cat, we needed to get him"fixed" soon. For a week I've had to deal with him running out the door to get outside and howling like a female cat in heat. It was soo annoying.
So this morning after dropping off Miss K at school I had to get back home and load up the animals. Since we were able to have them "altered" at our local animal shelter for low cost it made more sense to have them go together. The drop off time for surgery was at 9:00- 9:30am which left most of the morning for me and Little E to get out of the house.

After a half hour hanging out in the waiting room and being embarrassed by my dog's lack of ability to hold her bladder we were on our way to the fabric store. I still needed one piece of fabric to finish Little E's pirate costume for Halloween.

Taking Little E into Jo-Ann's fabric store was pretty entertaining to say the least. He found himself some pirate fabric that he had to have and of course I bought a piece to make a small pillow. I found a remnant to use for his costume and of course I got sucked into the clearance section. I did score an awesome deal on a sewing basket and bought some more stuff to fill it with. Feeding my newest hobby addiction-sewing. We couldn't get out of the store though without a lesson in taking what doesn't belong to us. Little E tried to stash a piece of candy in his pocket and thankfully I caught him. Why do they sell candy in a craft store anyways?

Running on empty in the gas tank and in my stomach I stopped for gas before heading home and discovered that Daytona Beach does not have a Dunkin Donuts anywhere!!! I had to drive back home before locating a DD back near my hometown.

Realizing that I needed to go to Target again for the third time this week (You'd think I'd avoid that place after my recent experience) I passed home to go pick up my prescription that was available a week ago. Of course when I get to the pharmacy they tell me that my prescription was returned to the shelf so I would have to wait 20 minutes. By now, Little E is begging me for an icee and I just want to go home and eat lunch. I decided to hang in the store and wait and browse the Halloween section which is already on clearance.

Twenty five minutes later we were on our way out leaving not much time before having to go pickup Miss K from school. No time left to go home and eat lunch we met up with a friend at Chick Fil A. It actually gave me a breathing moment to eat and watch the little guy play in the playground.

After picking up Miss K, all she was concerned with was when were we going to get Bella and Oscar. We had a few hours before the pick up time and headed home to get homework done and give Little E a nap. By then he was running on empty, whining about everything and telling me " see mommy, I'm not tired anymore". He might not think he is but I was and needed a break.

My relaxing hour that I thought I might get didn't happen. Maybe I should have stayed off the phone or maybe I should have put the computer away. Who knows, but I do know that my time in the recliner was anything but relaxing. I was planning to make a last trip to the grocery store to get some items that were on sale and use my coupons. So I was searching on my newest money saving, coupon clipping website to print more out. All the while I was keeping tabs on Miss K who was not staying on task with her homework.

Before I knew it it was 4:00pm and I needed to get back on the road again to go get the animals. Another hour on the road round trip not including stopping at the store and waiting at the clinic. We get to the humane society and of course you can view the puppies and kittens from this room. This afternoon they moved some new puppies into the viewing cages and I spotted this adorable fawn and white pup. She was absolutely precious and fell in love with the kids.

Before I know it I'm standing in the back field with both kids and this puppy. We're doing a "meet n greet" and getting to know this sweet puppy I penned the name "Baby". The kids didn;t get the idea about adopting and thought we were taking this puppy home today. What was I thinking? My friend says I'm crazy. I guess so. It's a crazy life I lead. The chaos is hilarious. So we're on the waiting list to see if we get the puppy.

After an hour at the clinic we load up the cat and dog and head home. Bella was so excited to see us she couldn't control her bladder and peed all over again.

She's pretty mellow tonight. I think the surgery and leaving us for the day has traumatized her for now. The cat is not happy with me since he's sporting a new collar. haha. That's what he gets for licking his stitches. Thankfully the little guy has stopped howling like a cat in heat. It might be quiet around here now.

The kids are asleep, where I should be. I think it's taking me longer to wind down. It' been a crazy day. Back to work in the morning.

OH NO YOU DIDN'T:October 26

Welcome to the “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!” TUESDAY Headquarters. I’m so excited that you’ve decided to play along!

I love Target and their new 5% back when you
use your Target Check Card but this might just
change my mind.

Photobucket

Saturday evening in after leaving my anniversary dinner before heading
to a movie with my hubby I told him we needed to make a quick
trip into Target to get grab some allergy medicine for the kids
and some sugar for our morning coffee.
After grabbing the bottle of Claritin my husband asked me
about some body wash for him. It reminded me about a sale
they were having on Dial body wash for men. $3.99 a bottle and when
you purchase 3 you get a $5.00 Target gift card and to sweeten
the deal, each bottle had a $1.00 off coupon.
I got to the register and separated my stuff into two transactions.
1. The 3 bottles of body wash
2. Sugar, Claritin, Kitchen Cleaner
The cashier rang up the Dial and then the register prompted her
to issue the gift card and then she went to scan my coupons.
The coupons scanned at $1.00, $.97 and $0.00. Really?
I questioned it and she called CS to get some assistance.
CS wasn't much help and she tried scanning the coupons before the
Gift Card issuance and it would only give me 2 $1.00 coupons.
She called a manager.
By now the people in line behind me are gathering their items and
walking to other registers. Ugh.
The manager tells me that I cannot use the coupons because they are
MFG (manufacturer) coupons.
Really? What the hell does that have to do with anything?
I begin to get irritated.
I told her that her store has these bottles on the
shelf with said coupons on them and she can't take them? Really?
She then tells me the coupons are for my next purchase..company policy.
What??!Really?
I'm thinking "OH NO YOU DIDN'T".
I told her I want to see that policy. She ignores me.
I told her if that's the case then why was I able to use
a coupon off the bottle of kitty litter bought the day before in her store?
Would she like to see a receipt????
We argue back and forth, back and forth about the coupons.
She is treating me like an idiot, like I have no idea what
a manufacturer coupon is.

End result
after 15minutes wasted in line and now I'm running
late to my movie:
I got $2.00 off and my $5.00 gift card and I
still have one coupon that she refused to force through her machine.

Monday Minute:Oct over?

Is the weekend really over? I can't believe that October
is almost over and this is the last week of it.
In forty one days I will be on a plane
heading to Colorado for a week long family vacation.
It seems like only yesterday I bought plane tickets
for this trip.
Time for some Monday Minute.
Won't you play along?
The questions.......

1.Have you ever been hospitalized? Other than giving birth to two babies, nope. I did go into the emergency room when I was having chest pains that could have been my gall bladder but after a barrage of tests, nothing was confirmed. I was sent home with some medicine and stayed away from spicy foods and it cleared up.

2.What’s the last bit of good news you received? That the cabin we will be staying in for 3 days while in Colorado will be free of charge. I am going to CO to visit my cousin and her family ( my aunt and uncle and other cousin as well) and staying with her and the cabin is owned by a family friend of hers. It is very generous of her friend to allow us to use it to stay in the mountains a few days. I can't wait to enjoy the weather, the company and freedom.

3. Who was your favorite teacher? I can't name just one. I had several that made an inspiration in my life like my 3rd grade teacher who gave me courage or my 6th grade teacher who showed me that it's okay to be different. Or my 7th and 8th grade art teacher who allowed my passion for art to come through or my 10th, 11th and 12th grade math teacher who let me shine in my favorite subject-math! Can you tell I loved school for what it was, learning. ?

4. Do you sing in the shower? Sometimes. I prefer to sing in the car, along with the radio. My kids laugh at me, they think I'm silly.

5. Describe the happiest day of your life. I could say the day my babies were born, but choosing one over the other is not possible because each of those days were blessings. One of the happiest days besides the obvious, was spending Easter Sunday this year. I had an amazing time watching both my children hunt for Easter eggs in my parents backyard. Little E was old enough to get the hang of egg hunting and watching he and Miss K laugh, run and enjoy the excitement of it was truly a fabulous day.

Volunteering: Little E

After eight weeks of waiting for my application to be verified, my background checked and whatever else they needed to dig up on me, I am officially a volunteer for Miss K's school! Last week the resource officer called me to give me the good news and wanted to know what kind of volunteering I was interested in. I was willing to work in any classroom even if it meant doing so in Miss K's class. She said she had a teacher that needed filing done and seeing how I would be bringing Little E with me, this teacher would be more understanding since she has a toddler herself.
I started my firs day of volunteer work this morning. I was nervous about how Little E would do. Would he be shy and act like he does when a stranger talks to him? Or would he feel at ease and go through all the cabinets, cubbies and books like he was at home? Well.. it was a little bit of both. I was so nervous about it that I had a hard time concentrating for the first 30 minutes.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well he did while I organized homework sheets, filed papers and checked folders. The 3rd graders took to Little E like he was one of their own and he was in heaven. Since it was Friday, the classroom schedule was more relaxed and the teacher played some music and let the kids walk around the room during an exercise. Little E joined in and had the biggest smile on his face!

Once I had finished everything Mrs. P had for me to do today, I told her how relieved I was about his behavior. She told me he did fine and that the students are like "mam hens". I finished telling her that I wasn't sure what to expect from that age group, but it worked well so far. I can't wait until next Monday to see how it goes.

5QF:Chef Mom

Where did the week go? Really.?
I cannot believe that it's Friday!
The days fly by and I am running out of time
to get my kids Halloween costumes finished.
I am looking forward to another fun weekend with the kids
and my husband. The kiddos are going to Grandma's house Saturday
night and having a sleep over.
ALONE time for mommy and daddy.
Oh how I'll miss them.

1. Who is the better cook, you or your spouse? I am, because I do all the cooking and LOVE to cook. I enjoy cooking meals for my family and relish the praise when they enjoy what I've cooked.I have taken family recipes and altered them to my liking and perfected them. My husband tells me that each time I recreate a meal it gets better.

2. How often do you talk to your mom? Pretty much everyday except on weekends. I'm so busy with my family doing recreational activities that I don't call her then. My mom and I have a pretty good relationship when I don't tell her too much of my personal life.

3. Are you adventurous in the kitchen or stick to the recipe? I will stick to the recipe the first time I make something but if I taste-test it and it doesn't seem right I might add something to it. If I make the recipe again I will most definitely alter it and make it differently. I have made several recipes of my own and love to get creative in the kitchen. I had made some pretty fabulous dishes and a few duds. Trial and error, only one way to find out.

4. Is your second toe longer than your big toe? Yes it is. On both feet. Isn't is something special if they are? I thought I heard that somewhere.

5. Do you dress up for Halloween? (Bonus question: What will you be this year?) Depends. I did two years ago when I dressed the kids as The Lion and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz. I dressed up as the Wicked Witch, it was so cute! We met up with some friends to go trick or treating and they didn't even recognize me. I wore a fake nose and green makeup that I did myself and it was pretty good. Pretty fabulous.

This year, I won't be anything. Just me.

PYHO: Pour Me A Large Glass

All it takes is one wrong word or something to set the mood in a bad light or some one not doing what they should be doing. The stress sets in and the mood changes. Then something else happens and escalates the mood and before you know it you can cut the tension with a knife.

That is just one moment of what it was like before I broke down and went to to doctor. Ten months ago I decided that I couldn't stand treating my family with such anger and meanness.

I have had stress issues since my teen years and they had manifested into much more after marriage and children. But you try to ignore the problem and after an outburst you say it's the last time. But I can say it's like a drug. You say "this is the last time". And then it happens again. Something irritates you and you get mad and when it's all over you apologize. You say it won't happen again, you won't get mad but you're only fooling yourself.

Then it happens again. But it's meaner and nastier than the last time because mentally you got away with nasty last time so you push it more. The best way I can describe it is like seeing red. You get so upset that you don't realize how mad you are and anything can irritate you while you're in this rage.

I broke down in tears and called my doctor one morning after yelling at the kids. I gave into turning to medication because praying for strength and asking for forgiveness of my sins wasn't working anymore. It only took eight years to come to terms with the fact that I needed help that I couldn't find alone.

It has been the best thing that has happened to me. Not many people know I take medicine to stay calm. Because honestly, the people that don't know never saw THAT side of me. That part of who I was was not publicly shown. There's no reason to tell them about that part of me because I'm not proud of it.

I hope to one day wean off the medicine. My doctor says it possible. I know that it's not going to be anytime soon. A good example would be this weekend. I got food poisoning and missed a day and half worth of my medicine. My irritability creeped in on me today. The small things started bothering me. It's possible that it was a combination of tiredness, missed medicine, and being overwhelmed that contributed to my irritated mood.

For those people out there that are feeling lost, moody, overwhelmed, stressed, exhausted, angry, tired... or any other contributing factor added with stress of raising children, keeping house, keeping a husband happy it's ok to admit defeat and seek help. Maybe you won't need medicine, maybe counseling with a therapist is what you need. Don't feel like a failure. Because for many years I felt like if I asked for help that I was admitting there was a problem and I didn't think there was.

My Apologies

Today should have been my first edition of OH NO YOU DIDN'T, but the fact that it was Tuesday morning slipped my mind. I spent the last 24 hours with food poisoning and Monday was pretty much a blur. I won't go into details but one of my favorite foods will no longer be consumed by me unless I make it myself.
Sunday evening my husband and I got some Chinese takeout from our regular restaurant. But this time I tried a new dish and I thought it was soo yummy! Famous last words. Ugh. I am still recovering today from being so sick and just realized that it was Tuesday.
Just thinking about Chinese Food is making me nauseous. So I promise that I will start next week.

"Bored" Games

I was talking to my mother today about organizing and cleaning closets. She is standing there telling me that she was reading an article on organizing and removing clutter from your house. She goes on to to tell me that my brothers and I still have items in our old closets in her house. She wants us to go through the stuff and take what we want or it's gone.

She is finally tired of hanging onto my prom dress, a bridesmaid dress from my brother's wedding that I wore when I was 15. Ugh. That ugly pink dress that my crazy sister in law had to publish on Facebook. She is even ready to part with my almost 39 year old brother's Boy Scout uniform that he wore in like 9th grade?

But then she mentioned that she was going to go through some old board games that she had been saving.

That piqued my interest. Old board games? She said she wasn't going to part with the original Monopoly or Life games she has. She actually has the old LIFE game with the pink and blue cars that you put the corresponding colored "baby" pegs into.

I started thinking about how great it would be to play some of the old board games I used to play when I was a kid. My brothers and I would spend summer days playing Go For It, Monopoly and Scrabble. Those were the good ol days, before internet and online gaming. Before Gameboys and Wii.

I asked her if she still had the original Battleship game marketed by Milton Bradley. She didn't know and hasn't sorted through them yet. I told her if she was going to part with Battleship I would take it. I want to show my kids what it's like to enjoy the company of some one in front of you playing a game where a machine doesn't show you the next move. A game that actually involves some thinking.

I know that a three and seven year old can't play it yet, but what does another three years sitting in my closet matter? It's probably got 15 years of dust sitting on the box anyways. That is unless my younger brother, who is a board game fanatic, took the game when he moved out back in 1999. I sure hope he didn't.

I'm crossing my fingers. Maybe soon I will be calling "Hit"!

5QF:I'm back!

Oh how I have missed blogging while my computer was down without power. I was slacking before that, I know. Writer's block, it's true. It happens. But it's nice to be back in my grooove and I have missed playing some 5QF with Mama M. Happy Friday!! I can sleep in and I'm gonna need it since it is 12:30 am and I am still up, but no school for the kids. Ahhh.

1. What is your favorite Halloween candy? If I had to pick a candy that I only consume at Halloween or the month of October because it's all over, is CANDY CORN! But it has to be the original yellow, orange and white made from Brach's. I bought a bag that was store brand and usually store brands are pretty much the same as premium brands but nope, not those.

2. Do you fold your socks? yes I do. I fold my socks and my husband's socks and they are folded a particular way. The kids socks since they are so small are folded and then the top is folded around both socks to keep them in pairs. Anal, yep. I even make sure to match up new white socks with new and old with old.

3. What is something that you wish you had been warned about? that life doesn't get easier with kids after they aren't babies anymore. I thought that once they started school that it would be less hectic, nope. No way! I'll take midnight feedings over getting up at 5:30am every weekday even on my days off. Sometimes I wish it was summer already.. and we're only nine weeks into the school year.

4. What is the most significant difference between you and your significant other? he's messy and I am not. He likes it clean but doesn't have the drive like I do to clean, organize and clean some more. Even when I am completely exhausted from a long day of getting one kid ready for school, laundry, grocery shopping and a 2 hour and 15 minute of watching Miss K at dance class I will still find the energy to pick up the house, vacuum the floors and wash dishes at 9:30. Yep. Did I say OCD? lol!

5. What are three words you would use to describe yourself? (And, just for fun...if your significant other is around, ask him/her what 3 words they would use to describe you!!)

Hubs: strong, stubborn and .......judgmental
Those would not be the words I would have used! But I asked him to give me three words to describe me to some one. I wonder what he means by strong? Strength as in muscles? Or strong minded? Hmmmm. I agree with stubborn because it definitely runs in my family, that is hereditary. Judgmental, I am not touching that one. That was the old me, really. I try hard.

Check out my new meme starting next Tuesday! Come by and play!

Halloween Costumes

So I've decided what the kids are going to be for Halloween.
Miss K is going to be a fairy, complete with wings, tutu, leotard
and all the glitter you can handle.
I'm being pretty crafty this year again and I'm putting
the kids costumes together myself.
I bought the tulle to make the tutu myself.
I went online and found instructions on how t make one.
Wish me luck!

Little E will be this!

*jack Pictures, Images and Photos

Jack Sparrow the pirate!
He doesn't know that is who he is
going to be, but he knows he'll be a pirate.
We're changing it just a bit since I only have the headband with
dreads from the costume.
So it's going to be combination of Jack Sparrow
and Captain Hook.
Complete with eye patch, earring, hook and sword.
My little guy is going to be soo cute!

Raincoat not needed

When it rains, it definitely pours. Today has been one of those crazy days that you just have to laugh at the craziness. The highlight of my day was that it was my day off from work and that it's my Wedding Anniversary. Not having to worry about being anywhere and being able to enjoy the morning, except for driving Miss K to school, it should have been peaceful. Nope, not this day.

Spilled banana milk during breakfast before we have to leave the house at 7:35am. It was 7:10 am and the best clean up I could manage was paper towels and cleaning wipes.I guess I could have let the dogs lick it up. Ha!

Trip to BJ's in attempt to use my 60 day free trial club membership and halfway there realizing that I left the coupon on the printer at home. Yep, pretty fantastic!

Fully potty trained three year old, or so I thought, poops in his underwear today. Oh, and I won't be too graphic, but it wasn't your regular bowel movement. Sticky, stinky and gross!

Awesome quietness in the middle of the day with Little E napping I took the time to get a few loads of laundry done. I planned it out to wash towels and bath rugs which could be easily removed without folding and then I would wash the whites. I hate whites, I hate folding socks. So I washed them last so they could yes, be left in the dryer. Yep. I'm feeling lazy like that.

I screwed up my anniversary dinner. I thought that I would make a family favorite of spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. Let's just say that the salad was fabulous. The sauce was gross. It wasn't even worthy of saving for leftovers to try and doctor it up.

Woke up the little man to eat dinner and he took about a half hour to crawl out from his bunk bed. I went back in to check on him and he's sitting on the floor, looks over at me and says "I need dry shorts mommy". What? He peed in the bed. He was soaked, the bed was soaked. It was like a gallon of it. So much for my laundry sitting in the dryer. Remember the missed step before nap? Yeah, I forgot to have him go pee.

Bathtime before dinner took up my extra time that I use to feed the dogs and cats. Begging animals after dinner made me rush through the steps and I was remembering the linens and bedsheets in the washer. I accidentally dropped the cat's food bowl with wet and dry food all on the floor. Another mess! Did I need something else to clean?!

At least I wrangled the hubby into helping me put Little E's bedsheets back on the bunkbed. Or that would have taken me 20 minutes while I climbed up and down the ladder and tackled the sheets alone.

But it didn't end there. Before bedtime, Little E was begging for a drink. I told him no because I didn't need another mess. He took upon himself to get a sippy cup, fill it up with water from the fridge and tried to put the lid on the cup He spilled it all over two kitchen chairs, the table, his pajamas and the floor. Outfit #3 today for one child and he's not a newborn anymore!

Thankfully I think my mess day is over. Knock on wood!!! I'm not in bed yet and the dogs might find it in their sneakiness to make a mess for me too. I'm hanging up the apron and gloves for the night, where's the housekeeper?
